The Messenger of Allah (SAW) married a large number of women; He was singular in this in contrast to his ummah, in that He took more than four; whoever of them He wanted were made permissible to him.
Khadijah bint Khuwailid …
Then Saudah bint Zam’a … He had sex with her in Mecca in the tenth year of the prophethood
And ‘Aishah bint Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with them both). He married her in Mecca before Saudah, some say after Saudah, but they agree that He did not have sex with her until in Medina; some say in the year that He made hijra, some say in the second year from hijra in the month of Shawwal; she was nine years old …
And Hafsah bint ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both) …
And Zainab bint Khuzaima … She was with him for two or three months, and passed away. None of his wives died during his lifetime other than her and Khadijah before her.
And Umm Salama bint Abi Umayya; her name was Hind …
And Zainab bint Jahsh Al-Asadiyah … He married her in the fifth year after the hijra …
And Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan; her name was Ramlah. He married her in year six and had sex with her in year seven …
And Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith …
And Maimunah bint Al-Harith …
And Safiyah bint Huyay ibn Akhtab the Jew. She fell to the portion that Dihya ibn Khalifa Al-Kalbi took, but the Messenger of Allah (SAW) bought her for a certain number of heads – there is disagreement as to how many – freed her, and married her; this was in year seven.
These are his wives regarding which there is no disagreement, eleven women, six of which were from Quraish, one from the Jews from the descendants of Harun [Aaron], and four from the other Arabs.
And as for those women for which there is disagreement, from among those He had sex with and separated from, or contracted marriage with but did not enter them, or was engaged to but his contract with them was not carried out, there is disagreement regarding them and regarding the reasons for his separation from them – great disagreement, which necessitates leaving it with the separation due to the health of one of them. We have mentioned all of the women, each one of them, in their respective entry of the “Book of Women” section of this Volume of ours; and praise be to Allah alone.
