Men must be firm in zeal and protective jealousy over their women and their people, for indeed zeal is part of the deen, to the point that it is not permissible for a marriageable man to hear the pounding of a marriageable woman using a mortar and pestle. And if a marriageable man knocks on the door of the house, it is not permissible for a woman to answer softly and gently, for the hearts of men are attracted to the least of things and the greatest of things. If a woman must answer him, she should put her her finger in her mouth and answer him, so her voice becomes like the voice of the elderly. And it is not permissible for women to look at marriageable men, even if the one being looked at is blind.
