From ‘Ikrama who said: Ibn ‘Abbas related to us of a blind man, who had a servant-mother [umm walad, “mother of children”] that used to insult the Prophet (SAW) and slander him. He forbade her but she did not cease, and he scolded her but she did not restrain herself. One night, she began to slander the Prophet (SAW) and insult him again, so he grabbed a lance, put it on her belly, and leaned on her, killing her. And a child came between her legs and got smeared with the blood that was there. In the morning this was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and He gathered the people and said: I beseech Allah that the man who has done this stand up, according to my right over him. And the blind man got up, passing through the people and trembling, until sitting down before the Prophet (SAW). He said: Oh Messenger of Allah, I am her owner; she used to insult you and slander you, and I forbade her but she did not cease, and I scolded her but she did not restrain herself; and I have two sons from her that are like pearls, and she was a companion to me; but yesterday she began to insult you and slander you, so I grabbed a lance, put it on her belly, and leaned on her until I killed her. And the Prophet (SAW) said: Indeed be witnesses, all of you, there is no need to pay any blood money.
