Ibn Ishaq said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) directed his commanders among the Muslims – when He ordered them to enter Mecca – that they not fight anyone except those who fought them, although He gave instructions for a certain group of people, which He mentioned by name, and ordered them to be killed, even if they were found under the curtains of the Ka’ba. These were: … Abdullah ibn Khatal, a man from the Banu Taim ibn Ghalib. Indeed He ordered him to be killed, in that he had been a Muslim, and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) sent him to collect charity, and sent one of the Ansar men with him. He had with him a freed slave of his to serve him, also a Muslim. He settled down to make camp, and ordered the freed slave to sacrifice a goat and make him some food. Then he fell asleep, and woke up, and he hadn’t made him anything, so he assailed him and killed him. Then he apostatized as a pagan. And he had two singing girls, Fartana and her friend, and the two of them used to sing satires about the Messenger of Allah (SAW), so the Messenger of Allah (SAW) ordered that they both be killed with him … And Sarah, the freed slave of one of the Banu ‘Abd Al-Mutallib; Sarah was one of those who had insulted him in Mecca … As for Ibn Khatal’s two singing girls, one of them was killed and the other fled, until the Messenger of Allah (SAW) was asked to grant her protection then, and he gave her protection. And He was asked to grant protection to Sarah, and He gave her protection, after which she remained, until a man trampled her with a horse on the plain during the time of ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab, and killed her.
