Hafs related from his uncle Anas ibn Malik, who said: One of the households of the Ansar had a camel to which they gave very special treatment but this camel had become difficult for them, refusing its back to them. So these Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and said: Indeed we had a camel to which we gave very special treatment, but truly it has become difficult for us and has refused its back to us, and the crops and the date palms have thirsted. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to his Companions: Get up. So they got up and entered the enclosure, and the camel was in one area of it. And the Prophet (SAW) went over to it, but the Ansar said: Oh Prophet of Allah, truly he has become like a rabid dog, and indeed we fear for you that he might attack. But He said: He has no power over me. And when the camel saw the Messenger of Allah (SAW), he came over to him until he fell prostrate between his hands. And the Messenger of Allah (SAW) suppressed him and brought him into submission to get him back to work. And his Companions said to him: Oh Messenger of Allah, this is a beast with no ability to reason, bowing down to you, while we, who can reason, we are more worthy to bow down to you. But He said: It is not fitting for anyone to bow down to anyone; if it were fitting for anyone to bow down to anyone, I would order women to bow down to their husbands out of the greatness of his rights over her. I swear by Him who holds my soul, even if there were sores filthy with pus and discharge from his feet to his hair part, and she approached and licked them, she would still not fulfill his rights.
