Nafi’ related that Ibn ‘Umar, when he was asked about marital relations with Christian or Jewish women, said: Indeed Allah has forbidden pagan women to the believers; and I know of nothing worse in idolatry [ishrak/shirk, ascribing associates to Allah], than for a woman to say that her lord is ‘Isa [Jesus], when he is just one of Allah’s servants.
