His word { He created for you } [Al-rum 21] is evidence that women were created just as animals, plants, and other useful things were created, as the Most High has said { He has created for you what is on the earth } [Al-baqara 29]. This implies that woman is not something created for worship or charged with duties. We can say that the creation of women is a grace given to us, and that their creation for us, and the duties they are charged with, are to complete the grace upon us, not to expressly charge them with duties like we are charged with duties. This comes from what is handed down and out of authority, the meaning being that what is handed down is this and other things, and authority because women are not charged with many duties as are men. This is because women are weak-natured and foolish, and are akin to boys, and boys are not charged with duties, and it was fitting that women not be given abundant duties. But grace upon us was not complete except by charging each one of them to fear punishment, yield to the husband, and keep herself from what is forbidden; were this not the case, there would be manifest corruption.
