Jabir related that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saw a woman, and so He came to his own woman Zainab while she was tanning a skin for herself, and He fulfilled his need, then went out to his companions and said: Women advance in the image of a devil and retreat in the image of a devil, so whenever any of you notices a woman, let him approach a woman of his household, for indeed that will take care of what is within him.

(Women advance in the image of a devil and retreat in the image of a devil.) The scholars have said that the meaning of this is a reference to desire and a beckoning to enticement to them, regarding the inclination towards women that Allah Most High placed in the souls of men, the delight in looking at them and anything related to them. For they are akin to Satan in his beckoning towards evil by his solicitousness and embellishment of it; from this it can be concluded that a woman should not go out among men except in the case of necessity, and that a man should lower his gaze from a woman’s garments and avoid her completely.
