When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) reached twenty-five years of age, He married Khadijah bint Khuwailid … Khadijah bint Khuwailid was a high-ranking and wealthy businesswoman, and she would hire men regarding her wealth, and have them speculate with it for a share that she would give them. The Quraish were a merchant people. When she heard about the Messenger of Allah (SAW), his sincere speech, his great trustworthiness, and his honorable morals, she sent for him and proposed that He go to Sham to trade some of her goods, and she would give him a better share than what she gave other merchants. He would go with a servant boy of hers called Maisara. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) accepted her offer, and set out with her goods, her servant Maisara with him, until He reached Sham … There the Messenger of Allah (SAW) sold the merchandise He had brought and bought what He wanted to buy, and then set out to return to Mecca, and Maisara was with him. And Maisara – according to what they allege – at midday when the heat was intense, saw two angels shading Him from the sun while He was riding on his camel. When they reached Mecca and brought Khadijah’s goods to her, she sold what He had brought and received double or around double. And Maisara told her about what the monk had said [regarding his prophethood], and how he had seen two angels give Him shade. Now Khadijah was a resolute, noble, and judicious woman, as Allah had found fit for her of His honor. When Maisara told her what he told her, she sent for the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and said to him – according to what they allege – Oh cousin, truly I have desired you, for your kinship, your high status among your people, your trustworthiness, good character, and sincere speech. Then she proposed herself to him. At the time Khadijah was the highest-born in nobility among the women of Quraish, the most honorable, and the most wealthy. All of her people were eager for some of what she had if they could.
