Ibn ‘Abbas related that the men sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (SAW) to beat the women. So He gave them permission, and they beat them. Then He went in for the night, and heard a loud sound, and said: What is this? They said: You gave permission for the men to beat the women, and they beat them. So then He forbade it, and said: The best among you are those who are best towards the women of their household, and I am among the best of you towards the women of my household.
