Abu ‘Ubaida Mu’ammar ibn Al-Muthanna mentioned in “The Book of Steeds”, by way of Al-Awza’i, of a colt that was brought to mount his mother, but he refused. So she was taken into a house and covered with clothes; and he was brought again to mount her and he mounted her. But when he smelled his mother’s scent, he grabbed his penis and broke it off at the base with his teeth. And if steeds are capable of such understanding, although their nature is innately farther from discernment than monkeys, than the possibility of discernment is that much more in monkeys.
