ونهى عن التبتل مع ما فيه من قمع الشهوة وغض البصر اللذين نبّه عليهما ﷺ بقوله من كان ذا طول فليتزوج فإنه أغض للبصر وأحصن للفرج حتى لم يره العلماء مما يقدح في الزهد قال سهل بن عبدالله قد حُببنَ إلى سيد المرسلين فكيف يُزهَد فيهن ونحوه لإبن عيينة وقد كان زهاد الصحابة رضي الله عنهم كثيري الزوجات والسراري كثيري النكاح وحكي في ذلك عن علي والحسن وإبن عمر وغيرهم غير شيء وقد كره غير واحد أن يلقى الله عزباً

الشفا للقاضي عياض اليحصبي القاسم الأول الباب الثاني في تكميل الله تعالى له المحاسن خَلْقاً خُلقاً وقرانه جميع الفضائل الدينية والدنيوية فيه نسقاً

And He prohibited celibacy, as therefore the sex drive is checked and the gaze is lowered, both of which He (SAW) advised in saying: Whoever has the stamina should marry, for indeed this will lessen one’s gaze and better safeguard one’s crotch. To the point that the scholars did not find in this anything damaging as regards self-discipline. Sahl ibn Abdullah said: Women were loved by the Leader of the messengers, so how could He be made to abstain from them? Similarly, Ibn ‘Uyaina said: Those of the Companions (May Allah be pleased with them) who were self-disciplined had many wives and concubines and had a great deal of marital relations. And this was related by ‘Ali and Al-Hasan and Ibn ‘Umar and others besides them; more than one of them was averse to meeting Allah having been celibate.
