عن عطية بن بسر المازني قال جاء عكاف بن وداعة الهلالي إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال له رسول الله ﷺ يا عكاف ألك زوجة قال لا قال ولا جارية قال لا قال وأنت صحيح موسر قال نعم والحمد لله قال فأنت إذاً من الشياطين إما أن تكون من رهبانية النصارى فأنت منهم وإما أن تكون منا فتصنع كما نصنع فإن من سنتنا النكاح شراركم عزابكم وأراذل موتاكم عزابكم أبالشيطان تمرسون ما له في نفسه سلاح أبلغ في الصالحين من الرجال والنساء إلا المتزوجون المطهرون المبرءون من الخنا ويحك يا عكاف تزوج إنهن صواحب داود وصواحب أيوب وصواحب يوسف وصواحب كرسف قال فقال عطية ومن كرسف يا رسول الله فقال رجل من بني إسرائيل على ساحل من سواحل البحر يصوم النهار ويقوم الليل لا يفر من صلاة ولا صيام ثم كفر من بعد ذلك بالله العظيم في سبب إمرأة عشقها فترك ما كان عليه من عبادة ربه عز وجل فتداركه الله بما سلف منه يعني فتاب الله عليه ويحك تزوج فإنك من المذنبين

From ‘Atiya ibn Busr Al-Mazani who said: ‘Akaf ibn Wada’a Al-Halali came to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Oh ‘Akaf, do you have a wife? He said: No. He said: And no young maid? He said: No. He said: And you are sound and well-off? He said: Yes, praise be to Allah. He said: Then you are of the devils! Either you belong to the Christian monks and are one of them, or you are one of us and do like we do; indeed our way of life is marital relations [nikah]. The worst of you are the celibate ones among you; the most despicable of your dead are the celibate among you; are you all tied down to Satan? There is no surer weapon unto him in righteous men and women but the married, the purified, absolved from atrocities. Woe to you, oh ‘Akaf; get married. Indeed women were the companions of Dawud [David], the companions of Ayub [Job], the companions of Yusuf [Joseph], and the companions of Kursuf. ‘Atiya said: And who is Kursuf oh Messenger of Allah? He said: A man from the sons of Israel on one of the shores of the sea, who fasted during the day and got up at night, and did not break away from prayer or fasting. Then he renounced that and disbelieved in Allah the Mighty, because of a woman he became fond of; he abandoned what was required from him in worshipping his Lord Mighty and Sublime. But Allah restored him due to what he had done before, that is, Allah brought him back from wrongdoing and forgave him. Woe to you; get married, for truly you are among the sinners.
