{ And they followed what the devils recite over the dominion of Solomon; and Solomon did not disbelieve but rather the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and what was revealed to the two angels of Babylon, Harut and Marut. And these two did not teach anyone until saying: Truly we are a trial; so do not disbelieve } Al-baqara 102

Abdullah ibn ‘Umar related that he heard the Prophet of Allah (SAW) say: Indeed Adam (peace be upon him), when Allah sent him down to earth, the angels said: Oh Lord, have you placed upon it those who cause corruption and bloodshed, while we are the ones who glorify your praise and consecrate you? He said: Truly I know what you do not know (Al-baqara 30). The angels said: Our Lord, we are more obedient to you than the sons of Adam. And Allah Most High said to the angels: Bring two from among the angels so we may send them down to earth, and see how they fare. They said: By our Lord, Harut and Marut. So they were sent down to earth and Zahra appeared to both of them, a woman from among the finest of people. She came to them and they asked her to give herself to them; but she said: No, by Allah, not until you both utter this word of disbelief. They said: We swear by Allah we will not ever associate anything with Allah. And she left them, then returned carrying a young boy. And they asked her to give herself, but she said: No, by Allah, not until you kill this boy. And they said: No, by Allah, we will not ever kill him. Then she left and returned carrying a cup of wine, and they asked her to give herself, but she said: No, by Allah, not until you drink this wine. So they drank and became drunk, and had sex with her, and killed the boy. And when they recovered, the woman said: I swear by Allah, neither of you have left anything that you refused to me but that you have done it when you were drunk. And they were given to choose between the punishment of this life and the punishment of the hereafter, and they chose the punishment of this life.
