From Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) dispatched an expedition to Awtas on the day of Hunayn, and they faced their enemy, fought them, prevailed over them, and took captives. But it was as if some of the Messenger of Allah’s (SAW) companions were embarrassed to get on the women [have sex with them] because of their idolater husbands. And so Allah Most High then sent down { And women who are married, except what your right hands have possessed } [Al-nisaa 24], that is, those women are permissible for them once their waiting period [‘iddah] is over.
