قرآن ﴿ ولا تنكحوا المشركات حتى يؤمنّ ﴾ البقرة ٢٢١
عن إبن عباس قال نزلت هذه الآية ﴿ ولا تنكحوا المشركات حتى يؤمنّ ﴾ فحجز الناس عنهن حتى نزلت الآية التي بعدها ﴿ اليوم أحل لكم الطيبات … والمحصنات من المؤمنات والمحصنات من الذين أوتوا الكتاب من قبلكم ﴾ فنكح الناس نساء أهل الكتاب

{ And do not have marital relations with idolater women until they believe } Al-baqara 221
From Ibn ‘Abbas who said: This verse was sent down { And do not have marital relations with idolater women [mushrikat] until they believe } . So people refrained from them until this verse was sent down after it { Today all good things are made lawful for you … and the virtuous women from among the believing women, and the virtuous women from among those to whom the book was brought before you } [Al-ma’ida 5]. So then people had marital relations with the women of the People of the Book.
