From Ibn ‘Abbas who said: Truly Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah forgive him) misled people. This clan was of the Ansar and they were idol worshippers, and among this clan were some Jews, who were people of a book. And they [the Ansar] saw in them [the Jews] superiority over them in knowledge and they followed after them in much of what they did. And part of how the people of the book did things was that they did not come to women except in one position, and that was so the women would be covered the best. And this clan of the Ansar adopted this practice of theirs, but this other clan of Quraish flagrantly exposed women and had pleasure from them from in front, from behind, and lying down. And when the Emigrants [muhajirun] came to Medina, a certain man among them married a woman from the Ansar, and started to do to these things with her; but she disallowed it and said: Truly we have only ever been approached in one position, so do that or else get away from me. Their issue intensified to the point that it reached the Messenger of Allah (SAW); so Allah Mighty and Sublime sent down { Your women are a tilth for you, so approach your tilth whenever and however you wish } [Al-baqara 223], that is, from the front, from behind, or lying down, meaning always in the location of childbirth.
