Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri related that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), at the battle of Hunain, sent a company of troops to Awtas, and they met the enemy, and fought them, and prevailed over them, and took them captive. And it appeared that some people from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) were embarrassed about having sex with the women because of their husbands among the idolaters. Regarding that, therefore, Allah Mighty and Sublime sent down { … And the women who are married, except what your right hands have possessed } [Al-nisaa 24], that is, they are permissible for you once their waiting period [‘iddah] has been fulfilled.
