Men are charged with not holding back intercourse from women, and to be fair among them regarding this. But whenever a man sees signs of rebellion from a woman, he should admonish her with words; and if she openly expresses rebellion he should abandon her in bed without words, and beat her with a beating that is not severe, that is, does not break any bones, or cause a wound in the flesh, and blood does not flow; this is whether she has rebelled one time or it has come from her repeatedly. And it is said: A man should not beat a woman except when she rebels repeatedly.
