Ibn Ishaq said: Isma’il ibn Abi Hakim, freed slave of the house of Zubair, related to me that he was told by Khadijah that she said to the Messenger of Allah (SAW): Oh cousin, can you let me know of this companion of yours, the one that comes to you, whenever he comes? He said: Yes. She said: Whenever he comes to you, let me know. Then Jibril came to Him as he would usually do. So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Khadijah: Oh Khadijah, this is Jibril; he has come to me. She said: Get up, cousin, and sit on my left thigh. So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) got up and sat on her. She said: Do you see him? He said: Yes. She said: Switch over and sit on my right thigh. So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) switched over and sat on her right thigh. And she said: Do you see him? He said: Yes. She said: Switch and sit in my lap. So the Messenger of Allah (SAW) switched and sat in her lap. She said: Do you see him? He said: Yes. At that point she became annoyed and threw off her top garment with the Messenger of Allah (SAW) sitting in her lap, and said: Do you see him? He said: No. She said: Oh cousin, be affirmed and rejoice! I swear by Allah indeed he is an angel, not a devil.
Ibn Ishaq said: I related this hadith to Abdullah ibn Hasan and he said: I heard my mother, Fatimah bint Husain, relate this hadith from Khadijah, except that I heard her say she made the Messenger of Allah (SAW) get between her and her shawl, and at that Jibril went away, so she said to the Messenger of Allah (SAW): Indeed this is an angel and not a devil.
